  • i am interested in building a fuigo are there any good plans that you know of and also what kind of wax is used on the inside?

  • @wulfesinger67 Ibota (cicarda chrysalis).

  • There are currently around 300 active smiths in Japan today. Sword manufacture was banned during the allied occupaction of Japan 1945-1953. Once it resumed, smiths had to be licensed by the government. They must complete a five year apprenticeship, followed by an examination where they must produce a blade before a panel of judges. In addition, swordmiths they are only allowed to make 2 long swords or 3 short swords per month.

  • Due to the these laws, the pride in a traditional craft and raw materials that a sword is constucted from, Japan still produces the finest Japanese swords in the world. Some smiths have taught briefly in China, but no-one from China has completed a full five year apprenticeship in Japan.

  • Many Japanese style swords are mass produced in China. However, these inferior blades are not to the standard of true Japanese swords of immense intrinsic beauty, cultural heritage and traditional values.
