My son Aiden was born with a port wine stain birthmark and diagnosed with Sturge-Weber syndrome. I hope his story educates and raises awareness for this rare disease.

My brother was born in 1979 with sws. He also has mental retardation. He had to go to a special school and his stain went on one whole side of his upper body including his chest. You are lucky to have the option of laser removal. My brother still has his stain and is 32 now. He is doing well and has about 1 seizure a year. He has 2 beautiful and healthy sons also. I hope your son has an amazing life journey!

i have recently meet a young lady who suffers from sws. I believe that she one of the most beautiful people inside and out, that i have ever meet.

You seem to have a lovely son. I'm so glad your son gets rid of it, or at least fades it, cause u know kids can be really cruel. I started crying when I saw your video - I was also born with a port wine stain birthmark on the left side of my nose and above my left eye. I had to learn to live with it, but often got teased and bullied by other kids. Back then laser treatments werent so common and rather expensive but this fall I decided that I will get the laser treatment!!! :-)

@TheEMILY6832 - no, a port wine stain has nothing to do with drinking wine while pregnant. it's an overabundance of blood vessels underneath the surface of the skin which resembles a spill of wine on a white table cloth. that's where the birthmark got it's name.
