This song haunts me each and every time I hear it ... yet, I keep coming back and needing to hear it again and again. I weep for all including JWG.

I'm just going to throw my opinion out there. I think that Sufjan was saying that we all have the potential for evil and everyone has made mistakes in their lives. Everyone has some "skeletons in their closet". He wasn't saying it was ok that John Wayne Gacy did this, just expressing...perhaps...the fact that sometimes he feels that he has some parts of his life he regrets. I think we can all agree we have done some things we regret.

I may have misunderstood you however and jumped into the middle of an argument, and if so...then I apologize.

I just want to make sure that I'm not misunderstanding you before I make a comment. Are you saying that, if the "rules" of society were not in place, then a person cheating on a test or being a pedaphile are on the same level? If so, I would disagree with you. I can't imagine a person cheating on a test standing next to someone who murdered 33 young men, being given the same punishment. Even animals don't find it benefitial to rape or kill the young. This is abnormal in all life forms.

They are absolutely on the same level. If you're religious, I'm afraid you wouldn't agree with me, as one of their standing arguments is that "you think rape is good" based on the logic that morality isn't inborn and is subjective. However, if you are a follower of the priests Darwin, you would understand the point I am getting across. I feel this song is conveying sympathy because that's the way he is and that's the way he's born. So take pity on him rather than be angry at him.

take pity on him? you sick fuck. How can anyone take pity on someone who was truly insane and disgusting. He kills 30 people and you tell people to take pity on him. you must be as fucked up as he is.

When a male lion joins a new pride of lions, it immediately kills and eats all the previous lion cubs, to make way for his own future cubs with the prides females...

just sayin...

No, actually they don't. If the cubs are old enough, the male will scare them away to maintain his dominance, but the males don't just kill the cubs.
