@oyajiblues Right on. I might not agree with everything Mr. Scott-Heron ever said, but he's got a lot of great ideas, he's a brilliant man. Incredibly racist? Sure, but I can take it xD And to be fair, we were much more incredibly racist to him, so it's still not even.

.....and it is Whites who get much of the Earned Income Credit. Whites prior to Welfare Reform also were among the majority who were on Welfare-Public assistance. So not Per Capita, but by the population numbers, whites were screwed by Clinton administration & by Congress (all over represented by White Males). Blacks aren't responsible because Blacks are underrepresented in Positions Of Power, & over-represented in Positions Of Poverty (per-Capita).

furthermore...to all those here making virulently racist comments concerning Gil Scott-Heron & Blacks in general should look at BBC documentary: Poor America. Disproportionately Blacks, Latinos are poor, under-served...that's true. We're not going to discuss Regressive taxation which takes much more out of poor people's pockets than Rich people...which is why the poor have less to tax. Statistically speaking, Whites number wise(not per capita) represent most of the poor...in America.

People should listen to the song carefully. Gil Scott Heron was among other things, RESPONDING to Racist America...as a historical & contemporary victim. People are starving while Whitey on the moon-that's how people used to talk then..& also elucidates the hypocrisy of "Progress". Americans are still starving now, & where is "Whitey" now? In Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, & about 6-7 other nation-states. We spend @ least $30 billion every 2 weeks for what can feed the world for 1year.
