Here is the ending of one of the last ever episodes of the original Thames series of Rainbow, "Ice and Water", from Friday 24th January 1992. It is followed by a CITV trailer for Monday afternoon entertainment on CITV with Chip'n'Dale Rescue Rangers (which I remember!) and T-Bag, voiced bt Tommy Boyd (who presented CITV at that time), and a Thames slide for the ITN Lunchtime News follwed by the Thames News, voiced by Mark Lipscombe. And an ad and a half - a full ad for Kellogg's All-Bran, and half and ad (because the recording cuts off) for Infacare soap.

  • And to be pedantic, Mr. Antarctica, it wasn't called "CITV" until later, it was still most definitely Children's ITV. It changed a few years later, altho' Steven Ryde did use "CITV" in most announcements.

  • Well, you're right there. I mainly used "CITV" for time-saving-in-typing reasons. ;-)

  • I actually have that Rainbow Comic, BTW!

  • although it was in 92 the production code says it was in 91

  • It does indeed.

  • I miss Rainbow even to this day.

  • Thames from 1992 - always makes me feel sad, especially if (as here) it's pre-election.

  • @KevCityboy (and wayzotoichi) I've spoken to RobertTheDodger654 and even ingravegreen about this (I mean they're not on their *own* on this subject).

  • (comment continued) @RobertTheDodger654 (and ingravegreen) Thames changing to Carlton at the beginning of 1993 is why TV-am was changed to GMTV (and, triple T!, why TVS, stood for 'Television South', no longer existed by this point, and why the Tina VS Andrew Catchphrase episode, aired on Saturday the 24th of October 1992, was the last TVS episode, and why the show had a new appearance, theme tune and logo as of Friday the 30th of September 1994)

  • @RobertTheDodger654 (and ingravegreen) Thames was actually made in *1968*, on Monday the 29th of July, but yes, I know what it was like for most people when it was changed after twenty-five years to *Carlton* as ITV's weekday franchise holder; this is why Rainbow had a new appearance (and even theme tune, what's worse, no *Geoffrey*, for goodness sake, who was even replaced by the annoying *Cleo*) in 1994, as the original *1972* version was owned by *Thames*

  • @ 1:04-1:05, is that in an episode of Rescue Rangers? If so, which one?

  • I hated Dawn, I always looked on her as an imposter! Rod, Jane and Freddy all the way!

  • Why is this still caled 1992?

  • it's a repeat, they did it v often

  • Carlton had completely ruined ITV; not that I've ever lived in the vicinity of London; but remember the original continuity announcements, which were done by members of the general public?
