Who are you???........Mikhail Barishnikov turns like NO OTHER dancer in my life time.....he is versatile too........Contemporary, Jazz, tap.....goes on....so don't bad him please, he defecting from Russia enabled us to witness the best control, body lines, strength, performance quality, intensity to match no other.......in Mikhail Barishnikov.....AND if you are going to demeen him ,.....SPELL HIS NAME CORRECTLY.........YOU ARE ARROGANT AND OBVIOUSLY JEALOUS.....
@WilesWales Well, why do former members of 3rd rate companies like you not keep their unintelligent comments for themselves??? Natasha, drunk or out of shape still has an artistic soul AND most of all a SCHOOL behind her, unlike a gymnast like Bujones!! In Odiles variation there are NO grands tours a la seconde en dedans!!! Do your homework, or rather stay away from ballet!!
I don't see why as a former Joffrey dancer how nor why she ever got to the top, unless it also has to do with the fact that she defected from the Soviet Union. It's like Mikail defecting in 1974, and using his jumps for the lack of line (they are both from the Kirov, I believe), and taking the attention so richly deserved away from Fernando Bujones who was No. 78 at the International Ballet Competition in 1974 in Varnas, Bulgaria, with such magical powers of the ballet. Too bad!
Let me begin by applauding Dowell on the extraordinary and magical dancer he is, and with such dificult improvments from the original choreogarpy. I have to agree that not only do Mararova's foutte's sloppy with no control of the beat from back to front on each turn, she also has not grace with her arms. She doesn't push the air or the barre, etc. In her variation, she doe not do the traditional a la seconde turns en dedans because she obviously can't, and every move she make is the easy way out
Ms Makarova is a superb actress in addition to having excellent technique, especially considering that this ballet was danced more than 30 years ago. Her performance is still extremely riveting.
Respond to this video… Part 2: I’ve always preferred Makarova in PDD rather than in solo work; every time I watch her on here, slamming through her fouettés, I grimace, wondering if she’ll get through them. BUT, if you watch for them, she has her moments in this variation. The sly way she has with those renversé turns on the diagonal and the light and speedy way she rips through the piqué turns at the end. Makes me never want to see another ballerina stumping their way through them.

If you watch Makarova for her fouettes it's like watching an opera and listening for one note.
