In 'crossover' mood, Katia Labèque teams up with Joey DeFrancesco to play an unusual cover of Gershwin's much-loved 'Summertime' (from 'Porgy and Bess').

  • Wasn't she married to guitarist John McLaughlin?

  • @RoMercy They were certainly an 'item' in the 80s and 90s but I'm not sure if they were ever actually married.

  • Nice.

Who's playing the solo(s)? One doesn't often hear Joey play piano.

Does Katia actually play improvised jazz?

  • @snaaptaker I think the solos are shared between the two of them.

I've seen Katia in a couple of jazz gigs and I got the distinct impression that her solos were written out for her. On the second occasion she seemed to be following a score fairly closely but there might have been a bit of improvisation.
