August 26th, 1920, the 19th Amendment was signed into law. Suffragists lobbied, marched, published and protested for decades to win the right for generations of women to participate in their government. They were ridiculed, ignored, jailed and sometimes tortured and yet they persevered.
Today, the United States ranks 84th out of 187 countries with 17% of federal elected offices and 24% of state legislative offices held by women and this number is dropping. You can change this by doing something simple.
Donate $19 to a woman candidate on Thursday, August 26th to commemorate the 19th Amendment to honor suffragists. Find 2010 women candidates at http://www.democraticdames.com/candidate.html. Want to do more? Donate $90 to commemorate the 90th Anniversary. Volunteer. Hold a fundraiser.
Tell your candidate you are donating to honor woman suffragists. Tell us who you supported at http://www.democraticdames.com/connect.html. We'll help track our collective effort to raise money for women candidates.
We must continue the dream of our suffragist ancestors; equal participation, equal representation, and equal rights for women. Spread the word and make a difference.
