Yehudi Menuhin plays Saint-Saëns (Saint-Saens) Violin Concerto No. 3 in B minor, Op. 61. My favorite rendition of this piece.

London Symphony Orchestra
Conductor: Gaston Poulet

I: Allegro non troppo
II: Andantino quasi allegretto
III: Molto moderato e maestoso

  • Anything could have ruined this recording quality, but before you go judging Menuhin, take into account that he was one of the greatest musicians who ever lived, and that his interpretation is a valid one. While it may not be YOUR taste, don't go calling it rubbish, for that lacks respect for yourself, and the performer. Grow up.

  • Every violinist has his/her own way of interpreting the piece. If you're a real musician, you'd respect and even learn something from it.

  • He Melts My Heart!

  • Amazing Violinist!

  • Great. However, he was a tad out of tune.

  • This is really the later Menuhin sound. Like it or not: Menuhin was a unique musician who played in a very genuin sort of style. He was Menuhin; we can't ignore his impact one contemporary violinists. He is a legent.

  • i like this version, but my favorite version of this piece is definitely either chee-yun's or zino franscescatti's.

  • he has annoying intonation problems all over the place. and I don't like his expression in a lot of places either

  • @FrankCoffman I agree marcovici is amazing, but still prefer Menuhin-he is definitely a genius

Just listen to the way Silvia Marcovici attacks the strings and makes them scream. Whoa! She is amazing.

Menuhin is fine, but not exciting. I love this violin concerto. I've listened to different interpretations of it. He plays it in an ordinary way, nothing special.

Silvia Marcovici plays it with verve and energy -- like she really LOVES it and BELIEVES in it and LIVES in it. Menuhin just goes from note to note in a correct way. Ho-hum. After listening to Silvia Marcovici, I can't listen to Menuhin going through the motions.... yawn....
