Mere Dholna - A Waacking Story by Kumari Suraj

Created, directed and choreographed by: Kumari Suraj.

Being Indian, this means the world to me. I enjoyed every moment of the creative process. It was a wonderful experience.

My friend Nimmz translated the music to English so I could understand the story. Mere Dolhna is a gorgeous story and one of my favorites. (See link below to the original film)

I love working with new dancers!
This was my first time working with Arun Mathai, a principal dancer of Blue13 Bollywood dance company. It was Arun's first time to Waack! Ever in life!! He held the character and the movement well. After just 2 rehearsals he pulled it off beautifully!

Working with my sister Yoda Jones (The Waackers & Lady Boogaloos), is always a beautiful journey through music. Yoda has spent her entire life studying the classical dance Bharatanatyam. Being apart of The Waackers and Lady Boogaloos, Yoda, is incredible at fusing the classical with contemporary styles.

***Yoda Jones set her freestyle in the intro mixing the Bharatanatyam with waacking. I just told her where I wanted it to hit in the music.
My vision was to mix Classical Indian with Waacking.

And that is just what I did!
