  • @Rayven10 I don't think we've ever disagreed on what "bear arms" means or what has been decided in the courts.

You took it someplace else. Your use of the word "WAS" means even you agree it has changed with the times. The founders could have never imagined the States would become so dependent on the Federal Government. It was unthinkable back then.

  • @candlstudios Anti gun. Ha! You obviously don't know me.

And "securing the state" was the primary PURPOSE of the amendment, not the requirement.

Lastly (I'm done with this entire argument), there have been no rulings on the meaning of "bear arms", and as such, it is not settled law. When someone decides to test an anti-carry state law in front of the Supreme Court, we get our answer. Until then, it's an open legal question.

  • @Rayven10 Again you go back to the anti-gun favorite, securing the state. The Heller decision specifically said this was not a requirement for exercising the individual right to keep and bear arms.

The 2nd Amendment protects an individual's right to defend himself. Nothing to do with the state.

Makes me wonder what your agenda is when you keep bring that up. It's not even relevant to what we were originally discussing.. the term "bear" is what started this whole thing.

  • @candlstudios Considering that the Supreme Court recent rulings only stopped governments from restricting gun ownership, the "bear" portion of the amendment is not yet determined.

And securing the state is the primary purpose: to defend the nation against foreign and domestic tyrants.

I'm not spreading misinformation, merely settled constitutional law - which is largely still undetermined.

And there are restrictions allowed, such as felons or mentally incompetent people.

  • @Rayven10 While the Supreme Court didn't offer a scope on what "bear" means it did say it means to carry in some form.. open or concealed is still TBD.

They also cleared up the crazy idea of "securing the state".

The 2nd Amendment applies to each of us, as individuals, without connection or requirement of state service or the protection of it and has been been incorporated as such.

That is settled case law. Stop spreading misinformation.

  • @candlstudios Therein lies the problem: what it means to me might not be what it means to you. The amendment doesn't say that you have the right to open carry, nor does it say that you have the right to conceal carry - only that you can "keep and bear arms". It also mentions the idea of securing the state being the purpose.

To me, we should be able to own and carry firearms as we see fit without government intervention, but that idea isn't guaranteed because the wording is extremely vague.

  • @Rayven10 What does "bear arms" mean to you?

  • The 2nd amendment doesn't allow you to openly carry - it preserves the right to keep and bear arms, which is a vague statement.

Historically speaking, the amendment was crafted as a way to give the people the right to rise up and overthrow their government if it ever became tyrannical, which is exactly what the framers had just done.

In short, the 2nd amendment is an insurance policy. It was to be used if all other options fail.

  • @acoow there was no point to miss. You clearly do not have an understanding of what the Second amendment entails. Unless of course you are simply trolling in which case I have wasted my time on you.

  • @Kiddeth Last time I read the Second Amendment it also didn't say anything about open carry. Did you miss my point as well?
