This is another sample I've made of the Hiwatt DG-504. This is really so you can hear the reference of what the amp can do.

Most of the pics are from shows I've done and some studio sessions. Others are of my gear and things.

On this recording I've used a few effects to try to emulate Gilmour's tone on this recording. He has a bit of a "phasey" or a "filtered" type of a sound on his guitar so I used an Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Mistress on the "filter" setting to try to emulate that. It worked "OK" in my opinion.

I also used a modded Boss CS-3, and a Modded Boss Blues Driver, and a SPF Ego Booster for the tone.

The cab is a Hughes & Kettner 2x12 loaded w/ Vintage 30's. The mics I used - a Shure SM57, and a Cheapo ribbon mic.

I recorded the guitar into Pro Tools over a backing track that I pulled from "www.gilmourish.com". I ONLY RECORDED THE LEAD GUITAR.

There was very little processing after the fact done here. I filtered out some low end off of the recorded guitar tracks and added some reverb.

Again, I recorded it this way to try to show the tone of the amp best. A webcam wouldn't do justice.

  • excellent tone man!!

  • @dickdog1 Thanks very much!

  • Would you say the studio/ stage would be good for floyd tone?i watched plenty of clips of that combo and it does sound awesome. I'll let you know what i go with. I feel a decision coming on!

  • @eals1880 Well, I would say you should play a few first and make a decision because they will all act different depending on your playing style and you're probably not going to be playing JUST floyd, so... But the Studio Stage is pretty nice all around.

  • I've been checking out amps for ages. I looked at Reeves and I am not sure if i can justify the import cost, tax etc to the UK. I'm looking for a a cleanish amp to use with pedals for floyd tone etc. I want to be able to play at low volumes in the house with future potential to play louder either at gigs or studio. Mainly at home for now though. Basically i want to do it right now as i see a tube amp in this price range as something i will have for a very long time!

  • @eals1880 Well it is an investment. If you have the opportunity check out the Hiwatt Studio/Stage combos. A friend of mine has one, and it sounds excellent. Very practical as well. They have a wattage cut feature for use between live and studio settings.

  • tone is spot on

  • wow man sound ACE

  • Ha, you love Gilmore, admit it...

  • @eals1880 I'm pretty happy with it. I've never used the DG combo, but I would think it's pretty excellent with a Fane.

As far as wattage, it depends on what you're using it for really. They have PLENTY of clean headroom if you're worried about that. Make sure you check out the Reeves amps as well!

    Good Luck, and thanks!!
