They don't have batons! Not even streamers! I've known majorettes to always have some kind of prop in their hands. Hats, streamers, flag batons, hoop batons, and even balls!

Dude I've been twirling for 15 years now and I've spun for 7. I've been a majorette for going on 6 years and we almost always have a baton of some sort in our hands. I understand the definition of "majorette" changes according to who you ask, but if you ask anyone around here(WV) a majorette twirls, a danceline dances...we have dance breaks and sideline dances but it's nothing like this. A majorette uses batons, flags, etc...these are not majorettes.(by my definition)

There are still many twirlers/majorettes around, but dancelines (that's what this group is) have become very popular. Still, there is a difference and dancers who do not twirl should not be called majorettes. The majorette is based upon the drum major who leads the band with a conductor's baton, so the girls/majorettes have batons. They can twirl batons of fire, or flags, knives, etc...as long as they twirl.
The meaning of the word has never changed, no matter the school/college.
