Education:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, University of Southern California

Occupation: Senior consultant at Avanade, a multinational joint-venture of Microsoft and Accenture

Marital Status: Married with two children

Background:
Gerald Giam has been a member of the Workers' Party since January 2009 and he is involved in the party's policy analysis and research work to formulate alternative proposals on national issues. For the past two years, he has been involved in WP's weekly house visits, which gives him a better understanding of the concerns of ordinary Singaporeans. As the WP's Assistant Webmaster, he engages Singaporeans through new media platforms like Facebook and blogs.

Gerald is a prolific writer about issues concerning Singapore. He is the author of the book, Singapore version 2.0: Alternative proposals for a better Singapore. His personal blog, geraldgiam.sg, is one of the most recognisable socio-political blogs in Singapore.

Gerald graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He is currently a Senior Consultant at Avanade, a multinational joint-venture of Microsoft and Accenture. He previously served as a Foreign Service Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which provided him important insights into the complexities of policymaking.

Gerald has been active in community service. He was a member of the Youth Functional Committee at South West Community Development Council for over seven years, where he organised youth engagement programmes. He recently completed two terms as a member of the Films Appeal Committee at the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts.

Philosophy:

Gerald believes that it is not sustainable in the long term for Singapore to be dominated by one party. He was attracted to join the Workers' Party because of its rational and responsible approach to politics, and the integrity of its leaders.

Gerald believes that it is the duty of the government to protect the weaker members of society. He sees an urgent need for greater social and educational assistance to be provided for low-income Singaporeans to help them keep pace with the rest of society.

As a Christian, Gerald is active in church and serves in various leadership capacities. Gerald enjoys reading, meeting new people and spending time with his family.

  • well speech..sdp needs ppl lk u..to overthrown pap..one day de young genarations should overcome..

  • I'm watching your speech from Vancouver, Canada...my son was your classmate at ACJS. I strongly believe that you'll be a compassionate, strong and credible voice for the people. A healthy and effective government strives on opposition contributions..THIS IS TRUE DEMOCRACY! I hope your sacrifices are well rewarded, ie. improving the quality of life for the low income workers, seniors and people with special needs. I wish you and your team great success. Way to go Workers' Party!

  • Good Speak.
