  • Almighty God, you called your servant Oscar Romero to be a voice for the voiceless poor, and to give his life as a seed of freedom and a sign of hope: Grant that, inspired by his sacrifice and the example of the martyrs of El Salvador, we may without fear or favor witness to your Word who abides, your Word who is Life, even Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be praise and glory now and for ever. Amen.

  • I'm not christian, but I know when somebody kicks ass for a role. Raul Julia was perfect for the role as Romero. He was an all-around awesome actor.

  • God bless you Oscar Romero!

  • I'm Catholic, and for religion class we watched this movie. I found it very unsettling, but then again, not everyone has it as great as the people in the U.S. It's a really great movie.

  • i watched this movie in spanish class and read about him in scripture class Romero was a great man. Great catholic movie!

  • @oaklandlatinosunited You think so? I thought Julia looks and sounds much more macho than the original. I kept expecting him to cold-cock one of the fat cats with a single punch. When he delivers his final homily, he screams, "STOP THE REPRESSION!" at the top of his voice, whereas the real Romero said it much more gently.

  • @montrealguy71 - polices such as backing foreign powers and taking sides in wars has little to do with whole populations of people, rather the .01 percent of people in power at the government, indeed only the president and his select few - not all Americans are evil just a couple

  • it's creepy how much Raul Julia resembles the real Oscar Romero if you don't belive me look him up . i remember seeing this movie at the teather in Berkeley ca when it came out in 1989 i was 12 . and my pops is from El Salvador . on an interesting note my father met the real father Rutilio Grande in the late 60s . they need to make a movie about Farabundo Marti and Agustin Sandino ,
