I like Teochew opera a lot, even though I don't understand it very well. It always reminds me with my mom.

Tong Cho Hui is nice, but she is too old to sing now. China is much better. What do you think?

@hotthai52 China has caught up with Hong Kong for the past few years ever since the Teochew Opera scene in Hong Kong declined. There are different elements you will observe in the productions from the 2 regions but I am still in love with the Hong Kong style as the pace of their scripts is faster. It is indeed not easy to be able to perform given her age (48 in 1991 and now 67).

Hi Gareth, is the 'father' the same actor who usually act as father in the blk n white 60s opera acting with TCH ? His voice sounds the same to me. Is he in Hong Kong, I wonder? I like him too.

@operafanuk2010 Yes. He is the one. But last time he was much thinner. he's in HK now.

I wonder who is the actress who acted as the mother, very good actress. Don't think she's a HK actress, seems more like from China. Pls let me know and what other films have she acted.

She's 邱小琼, from 中国揭西潮剧团, but sorry, I'm not sure what other shows she has acted in.

Last year, I went to Bangkok to visit my family and I had a chace to see some local Teochew opera. I felt very sorry for all the actors because the weather was so hot. For myself, I could stand to watch only 10 minutes. The opera was ok (not too bad) because the most opera casts were country Thai (E-San). They were very talent , they could sing and dance in Chinese but they don't understand Chinese, They sang and spoke Chinese on the stage only.
