My father never talked much about his times in the servise but he made lite of the odd fact's that came his way. He was in a pool drawing held by the Local U.S.O. for a chance to escort Betty Grable to church & got to be one lucky Joe that Sunday. When he was going through bootcamp an other movie personality was making his secondround; who was it, well it was Stanley Clements. Dad had said he was a smart-ass & his tuff-guy cockey attitude got Stanley a lot of washing pot's & pan's on K-P on his second round in camp. You may remember Stanley from movies like "Going My Way" as one of the two kids that stole a Turkey & slapped the other kid a lot. Stanley was in some of The Dead-End Kids shorts & played mostly Gangsters types.

  • @4205lr; I understand what your saying, but it's Glenn Miller's Music so it's a part of him no matter whom is playing so it lives and he lives on as long as we play it in rememberance. I look back as a kid to a time when this music was played over the speakers at the drive-in-movies we went to. I can just see my Dad dancing his way back to the car with the pop-corn & drinks in hand boy he sure could jump-n-jive.

  • Nice. Love the images you chose - I showed this video to my history of music class!

  • @EyeLean5280; Thank You! for your comment:

I'm glad you picked our little slide show video to show your music class. We here at "Bearly Room To Move Studios" used photo take by Big Frankie C-eeee father the veteran in the opening. Other photo's were of the friend's he had made with other duce-and-a-half drivers, MP's, motor-pool's & aircraft mechanic that cept-em Rolling & Flying in WW-2. Through thoes times Hollywood crossed John's path people like "Stanley Clement & Betty Grable" pictured.

  • its weird to think this is the last music and enjoyment a lot of young guys heard before their death. adds an extra layer of emotion to the music because of the era.

  • I love it! And NO Tattoos!!

  • Thank you for making this vid, great pictures, text and sound :)

  • Back to the day that real men went rabbit hunting

  • My late father was stationed in the Shetland Isles during WW2 and he attended a dance there with a local young lady. They were having a great time dancing to this piece until one of the organizers stopped them and asked my Dad to leave as when they were jitterbugging the folks that were watching got a flash of the young ladies stocking tops. :)

RIP Dad, Glenn's music lives on.

  • Great tribute to your dad and others. Thanks.

  • @tinkerbruzer Betty Grable was pregnant when that pic was shot. That's y her back is 2 the camera.

  • @tinkerbruzer Cool post! Big Band Music is the fore runner of R&R, without it there wouldn't have been any 50s R&R. What a horrible thought!!!!!

  • My Dad also served in WWII in the Navy as a radar man aboard ship. He also didn't speak much about his time served, I only knew 2 ships were sunk from under him. My Mom worked in a war time factory in Pgh,PA. Our parents truly were the greatest generation & I fear we r the last remnants of the kind of people this country produced since the beginning. I love Big Band Music, thanks 4 posting the great pics with this superb tune. I so wish I could have lived back then. Salute 2 yr Dad!!!
