Center drill, drill, tap, feed and cut off on my 1942 B&S 2G automatic screw machine. Not bad considering I've had to teach myself how make the cams and set the machine up.

  • do not run water based coolants in these old machines as they never intended to use it.

  • Back in the day,Brown&Sharpe(I am talking in its infancy)they had consider them to be Automatic Turret Lathes...Checked your profile..United Kingdom..Ever hear of Emi-Mec, sprint series automatics?Very easy setups, held tolerance ok.But biggest flaw was they used micro switches. If a chip got in between the switch an its contact,it was a dissater..the "woodpecker" it seemed was the only one that got it..The machine was programmed through a series of Diode pegs,an was pnuematic.

  • Sliding headstock machines are called "Swiss Type Machines" They are all screw machines.

  • i dont know if you got this process done but take your collet and put a hard stop in the back, thats how we usually do 2nd ops but we are getting rid of ours :(

  • Not a bad job for someone self taught. I have 40yrs experience on these machines, any questions just ask

  • Brown and sharpe were the makers of the machine.A screw machine isnt really correct as by my knowledge they were sliding headstock lathes, the machine in the video is a cam controlled automatic lathe that can be set up to make any screw nut bolt washer whatever and it will continue making them one after the other by means of feeding bar through the collet. hope this helps

  • what is a brown and sharpe screw machine? i have seen them on ebay in usa. is it a mechanicaly controlled machine preset?
