Barcelos, pequena cidade banhada pelo rio Cávado, é famosa pelo artesanato de olaria e cerâmica, sobretudo pelo tradicional galo de Barcelos, que se tornou um símbolo nacional.

Barcelos, small city bathed for the river Cávado, is famous for the handycraft of pottery and ceramics, over all for the traditional rooster of Barcelos, that if became a national symbol.

My husband and I were visiting his parents in Viseu and we decided to visit the market one Thursday for the experience. We stayed overnight in a pension, got there early, waited and waited... nothing. Finally after wandering around aimlessly we stopped a local to ask where the market was. He tells us, "today is a holiday, no market today." So we never got to go, because we went home the following week!
