I guess at least with pop music you know why they use smoke and mirrors. I dont understand why an artist that people take seriously needs to use that.

Simply because her focus lies on the music and the art, the spirituality. She doesn't try to fit on the flashy popscene, rather shes trying to renew it. It's amazing. Just listen to her texts and watch her official videos - also pre solo where she was known as The Knife. She has a much more sublte and harmonious message then your regular pop sensation. She doesn't force sterotypes down peoples throat with her music.
