Last part! That was a lot of videos for a Gradius game...
What... the heck is Garudius 95?:
It's a fan game, and a damn professional one at that, to the point when I first played it I was convinced it was an actual Konami product. It was created for the Japan only NEC PC98.
It can be found at: http://tiny.cc/garudius

What's a Recovery Run?:
Here's the basic idea: Get to the boss, and then die. Then beat the boss (and.. what parts of the stage it forces me to do.) with the few power-ups you get from the pre-boss checkpoint.

The hardest part about the Gradius series is, when you die, especially to one of the bosses, it's extremely difficult to continue. This is what makes the Gradius series amongst the hardest shoot em up's around.

I'm giving this great game hopefully a bit more video coverage. Enjoy!

The last few bosses in the final stage of Garudius '95.
Thank god none of the boss checkpoints were within the stage itself - that thing was a freakin' nightmare! It's kinda like the designer thought "fuck it, lets just rip off Gradius 3's final stage".... and he did. The Arcade version. He ripped off the freakin' Arcade version. Jeesssus...
Finally, guess what rears it's ugly head after the final boss...

Boss Notes:
Three Choice Path:

Ah this is a interesting segment of the level. And the longest checkpoint in the level, if not the game.
You get three choices - each path ends with a different boss fight. Unfortunately this choice is exactly where the checkpoint is placed. Personally, I recommend taking the bottom route - it's significantly easier than the other two - the middle one isn't really a good idea, even with the cool music.
The other two routes were covered in Part 3 of this video series.

Top Route:
Nemesis
Slightly harder than the Salamander route, but not quite the bullet hell that's the Time Warp route. Missiles with some sort of splash damage really help here, as the little nucli-things have quite a few hit points and can even regenerate. (Um..?)

Cell Nucleus:
Oh look! It's this thing! We haven't seen this in a long.. time.. oh it's dead.
Nearly got killed by going straight into it at the end.
Interestingly, unlike the original version of the boss - the safespot isn't at the back of the boss arena, rather it's right in it's face.

Last Stretch:
Fairly difficult checkpoint this. A lot of precise movement required, and to top it all off, the regenerated walls now reform as indestructible blocks! Nasty.
The Gau (Lifeforce ARC) like creatures thankfully aren't much of a threat, as they broadcast their moves way ahead of time.

Final Boss:
Oh dear. Like most Gradius final bosses, this thing is ridiculously difficult.
Really struggled here. Really struggled.
... it's dead and the stage keeps moving? Wait.. wha..

Oh you've got to be bloody kidding me.

Not that. Anything but.

FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU.........

  • That was certainly a wierd looking Final Boss. I saw another video of this game and it shows that if you use a Mega Crush near the Portals in the 3 way split, they'll be destroyed and you can skip those segments.

  • Hah nice trick. I was trying to find something like that, but seeing how I got there with no power ups and all...

  • Bacterion(or at least I think it's Bacterion) looks so cool in this game. Shame he doesn't do anything.

  • No. The Vic Viper was torn apart in the explosion, but its cockpit was still largely intact, so its pilot survived and was able to be recovered by Gradian forces.

  • @burger414 Read description

  • Was this played on a Sega Genesis?

  • @XGluon that was a sad sad ending

  • Lamest boss ever -_-

  • Damn cool, I love the ending!

  • Cool...

  • Sorry for the double post ACE, but I found out that you can change the Vic Viper's in game sprite by changing the font in config. It's pretty damn cool!

  • Ha lulzors and stuff near the end... seriously though, you can't go through a Gradius game without a speed up stage! They really ripped off Gradius 3 for the final stage though... and the ripped off the ARCADE version... jebus on a stick...
