More in the Bois Jacques woods just outside of Foy. You may see a fair bit of camera shake on this vid, thats because I was cold.

This video was done on the 25th March 2009. My friend Pete and I walked from Bastogne to Foy in the snow. We then visited Recogne, the site of the Germans Graves and the monument of the site American graves until they were relocated 1948.

After that we then went into Foy and took the road heading to Bizroy and entered the Bois Jacques. In these woods you can still see the Fox holes dug by Easy Company. The woods are eerie and silent. Some of these holes looked a little to fresh to be the original Easy Company ones (1 or 2) but, the original ones can still be seen if you look around.

We then left the woods and carried on heading for Bizroy Taking in the sights of the Easy Company monument. After Bizroy we headed back to Bastogne and had a good look around the American monument just outside of Bastogne. In total we walked over 10 miles in what was some times driving snow.

I cannot wait to go back again some time; the experience will stay with me for ever. I salute all who, in whatever part, were involved in the fierce Battle of the Bulge.

  • Eerie looking and sounding place to be. Ten times worse if your under mortar and shell fire. Can you imagine ??? Hard to imagine the intensity and fear what those US boys from the 101st Airbourne, 506th PIR went through in the Bois Jacques. My humblist and deepest respect to each and everyone of them !!!!!!

Great footage you took there Andy. Sounded as if you could have done with blowing your nose !!! lol

  • @GBRGraham Thanks, yeah I was full of cold and all out of tissue's. The joys of being in the middle of nowhere on a nice cold winters day in Belgium. I just count my blessing I had no shelling to contend with.

  • very nice well done. hope to make it when im in europe next. is winter or summer the best time to visit it? im thinking winter b/c thats when it all took place

  • @carlman1987 I would recommend going to the Bois Jaccques in the winter. It adds to the experience gives a greater impact on the whole experience.

  • hey man how often do you go to the bois jacques. and how are the hotels around there i was wanting to go there in 6 months to a year.

  • Hi, Only been once, I do plan on going back though. I cannot comment on the hotels around the Bois Jacques as I didn't use them but, I would recommend you stop some where in Bastogne.

The people in the tourerist information center where amazingly helpful

  • @andymuza

    Thanks. I was thinking winter.

  • Sure I saw some craters. Nothing huge but about what you would expect from mortar fire.

  • Sorry SnipAma. I removed your comment by mistake. SnipAma posted "wow, that was great footage ,bet it was a time to remember,so is there any impct crater there? and if so can ya tell the difference between a crater and foxhole.obviously the foxholes that are fortified by branches speak for themselves.thanx for the vid ,going straight to me favourites"

  • Thanks for comments. I would recommend any one to go and see the Bois Jacques. It's an incredible experience that is extremely humbling.
