This is a news segment on KTVU Channel 2 News talking about the television analog to digital transition in the United States, as the Federal government requires, on February 17, 2009, all TV stations must shut down all analog transmission, and will only broadcast in digital. However, there are still many residents in the US not ready for that day.
Wow, I am so amazed at how many people are so misinformed about the DTV switch.
You guys don't NEED to throw out your old TV and buy an HDTV. Your cherished Sharp TV from the 1980s will still work if you have cable or satellite. If you just use an antenna, then you will just need to buy a converter box. It's not that expensive if you go to places like Big Lots or Longs Drugs.

Digital TV if fine in itself but when it is broadcasted though and received an antenna you get drop outs (like a skipping cd). That will be VERY annoying for most viewers. With analog transmition the picture just gets a little fuzzy but is still very watchable. Most poor people will probabaly not have tv because the signal will be too weak in some areas and there will be lots of signal dropouts even with a good anttena with amplifier boosters. I have already witnessed this. No more TV for me.

Why the fuck should WE have to pay for it! They should GIVE the converters away! All this digital crap is fucking life up. Analoug will always be superior to digital. After all, it's the advertisers who would lose out if people refuse to switch. I hope theres a big backlash.

Do you Have comcast basic cable and you get channels that say get digital I think you might need the converter box because we use to get free basic cable but since all our favorite channels went digital we subscribed to Comcast Digital then WE GOT AN HDTV had to pay 7$s extra for the HD channels and A new cablebox
