Can-Am Spyder : Web of intrigue as Spyder hits streets

Not quite a motorcycle, but not quite a car.

A fleet of Can-Am Spyder Roadsters are making an interesting sight on the roads of Palmerston North this weekend.

Eleven of the three-wheeled vehicles, which range in price from $17,000 to $48,000, have been brought to the city for the Spyder Experience New Zealand tour.

The public test runs started yesterday and were to continue over the weekend before the tour moves on to Taupo.

Drivers are being taken through a course of cones at the Ongley Park car park before going for a 30-minute drive through the streets.

Spyder Experience operations manager Darrell Knight said the vehicles were something between a car and a motorcycle.

"They really do appeal to somebody that wants something different."

Register for a test run between 9am and 3pm today or tomorrow at Ongley Park or online.

Riders must be over 20, have a valid driver's licence and bring along a helmet and protective clothing. Pillion riders are also welcome.
