I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say good works come from the Holy Spirit. Do you know what the Holy Spirit is? I may be assuming here somewhat, but I lean towards believing you are lost in theology. The Holy Spirit is simply mans good works inspired by God.

Good works does not equal repentance. The only good works truly come from the Holy Spirit in which we can take no credit for. God does the work in us and all of the glory goes to Him alone. Faith is belief & trust and the Holy Spirit instills in us with faith which is a gift, if we are truly born again good works will follow. Christ died for His elect, He died for His sheep [John 6]. Someone who is truly born again will repent of their sins and God will change them.

good works = repentance
Faith/Repentance is shown as twin graces. You cannot have one without the other, they must always go hand-in-hand. Faith causes an active belief, active in that it leads you to do something; that something is respond with regard to that faith. Faith in what? that you are a sinner, God is holy, you are deserving of wrath, Christ died in your stead. In light of this, if it is a true faith, you will repent of your sins, this is the only acceptable work that God graces to us.
