I remember playing this on the PET in 1978! If you know how to analyze Nim, and choose to go first, you can always win. The computer doesn't always play perfectly, which made for an added challenge - Will the computer make a mistake? Can you catch it and take advantage of it when it does?
The TRS-80 original did have sound, you had to hook up your cassette out lead to an amplifier, worked great. The androids talked to each other and the ray gun charged up with a building crescendo.
I've seen this game on a TRS-80. That version doesn't have the androids "talking" (not to mention that there was be no sound). The movement was very much the same. When the excecution is done, you would see the androids looking up or down (depending on which row was chosen) while the ones on the chosen row would look to the left. Then, the android on the chosen row would fire not bullets, but a laser beam made with equal signs. That game was programmed in BASIC.
It seems like a lot of PET games came out of Canada around that time.

A co-worker of my grandfather by the name of Mike Mead had this on his super PET - I played it as a kid. Fond memories heheh.
