  • I personally prefere the original version of the operas. Rossini wrote this opera in french, as Verdi did for Don Carlos. They used a frenh libretto to which the music was perfectly connected as far as the "prosodia" is concerned. I love opera in italian (my mother tang by the way) but I belive that music was insipred to the authors in the base of a french language which some how sound to my ear more adapetd than the italian.

  • WOW!!! I saw "Guglielmo Tell" (italian version) twice, directed by Riccardo Muti, in Florence.

I didn't know this very very moving perfomance...and I don't allude directly to Thomas Hampson... He's terrific, especially when he sings in French language...

This video is very touching, too: it seems to me that peace and calm envelop everything!!!

    Thank you very much!

Do you Know if there is a DVD or CD complete version?

  • @aletibet

I am not so sure but I have the impression of having seen long time ago in a DVD store. Ciao Olaig

  • Wonderful execution, but the audience must not clap the hands till the maestro put down his own.

  • As a child I remember this music as the opening programs of Italian state Television -RAI-, only the music not the singing words of the finale, now I know why they decided to open the programs with such masterpiece of Rossini. Great Heavenly bliss.

  • I do like Thomas in this!!

  • Although I prefer the Italian translation (Di tuo regno sia l'avvento, sulla terra o Liberta), much more simple, this is magnificent finale, arguably the very best one can hope to see. Pure heaven. Bravo Rossini!
