This was a 1991 Showscan simulator ride. (Showscan was a 70mm process developed by Doug Trumbull to run at 60fps.)

A 2-3 foot wide track was built that covered a 1/2 lap. This was shot with motion control and redressed for each segment. All space vehicles are motion control models. This was probably one of the last all optically composited project at ILM.

  • I like this video, it seems a race from the F-Zero (Nintendo) videogame.

  • This is retardedly awesome. I would pay $100 to ride this on an actual Showscan system!

Also a cool example of how 20-year-old optical animation done professionally can be just as good, or superior to CGI animation.

  • i remember these rides very fondly when i was very young seeing these at the Emaginator at Londons Trocadero when it used to be cool

  • Cn Tower. tour of the Universe. Best childhood memories gone forever! Long Live Moses Znaimer!

  • I use to operate the showscan ride in CO at the Starport in Park Meadows mall. Ah this video brought back great memories.

  • goog god this takes me back! 20 years to be exact. we popped over to Canada in 91 to visit relatives. while we were there we visited the CN tower and this ride was in the arena at the base. Awesome!

  • That ride was at the Canadian National Tower where I went there since 1991

  • I remember this one....I miss it. I remember my mom getting sick after we get the new engines...LOL

  • Thanks pal!
