I have the same problem no (12 Oct 2011), my HTC Legend suddenly the top most part of the screen stop responding (notification bar area) then the screen seemed as needs calibration.
any help please !

@MarvelousScape I had exactly the same problem until today. Hot weather and high humidity trigger touch screen issue. In my case it was hardware related. I changed the digitizer (that is the glass front of the screen, not the LCD itself) which did the deal. Parts are available on ebay for about 30 Euros. Instruction in disassembly are here: If you still have warranty on your phone let them deal with it! Good luck.

all i can say HARD REST/ FACTORY RESET. i did it to mine last night at it works like new. :)

@nat50866 I did a factory reset to it a couple of times but it didn't affect anything.

I've aproximatively the same bug. I try a 2.2 rom, and it doesn't solve the problem. I think it's hardware.

@theorime42 Yes I'm sure it's hardware related. I've figured out sometimes it helps to twist the phone just slightly by grabbing the top and bottom of the phone. But even that alone doesn't always help, though usually after twisting and rebooting it works ok again. Plain reboots don't always work.
