R.I.P Sheniz Erkan - News Report

It's said Sheniz Erkan woke with a smile on Monday, as she did every morning. This knowledge helps explain the depth of shock at her funeral in Sunshine today.

For everyone knew Sheniz to be bubbly, the "most loved soccer person in history", according to her club president. She seemed destined for the highest leagues: At 14, she had bloomed as an unusual blend of commitment and talent.

This is one reason among dozens that mourners could make no sense of Sheniz' decision to take her own life. Perhaps they never will.

"Why?" grew the cry for a procession of teenage girls who viewed Sheniz' open casket. It summed up the tone of the sympathy cards gathered by her framed soccer jersey.

Sheniz was well loved. The tragedy is that she didn't know how well. Her life meant far more than she knew: Hopefully, so too will her death.

This week, Prime Minister Julia Gillard has tackled the "cowardly" behaviour that can make "life a misery for innocent people". A community rally is planned in Sheniz' honour. And perhaps her story will be the starting point for change on the muddled issue of bullying.

It's believed that being tormented, in the schoolyard and on the internet, drove Sheniz' dreadful choice.

Her family was said to be aware of the problems, and had started taking steps on her behalf.

Yet they, as with everyone else, never grasped the depth of her sadness. Even her best friend thought Sheniz did well to ignore the taunts.

"It was impossible to pick," a friend said of Sheniz' despair. "We are shattered. We are devastated."

Great anger has surfaced at the course of events before and after her death: Ghouls have hacked into her Facebook account and they left nasty messages on a Facebook tribute page that fast boasted 27,000 followers.

But if there was rage at today's farewell, it was smothered in grief - and confusion. Melbourne Heart representatives, as well as police officers, were among about 500 mourners.

Men dabbed at their eyes with handkerchiefs. Girls, some in Cairnlea Soccer Club uniforms labelled with Sheniz' name and number, shrieked.

Iman Esat Yapici broke down during the service. Preaching in Turkish, he spoke of children as roses who needed to be watered, nurtured and tended. He said that children must be shown that they belong.

He also implored mourners to forgive those accused of bullying Sheniz. Sheniz was due to start soccer training the day after she died. Had she been there, it was said after her service, she would have been the first to arrive and the last to leave.

3:Delete fb get a phone app to block number/change phone number.

4: Move away.
