  • I think the 300/4 is a great lens. I have never attributed its mechanical focusing speed to losing a soccer shot.

  • you should test the lens and af speed outside the room and under sun light. Every lens and camera in low light area will be slow down for AF.

  • Hi -If I was shooting surfing, would you recommend the 70-300 or the af300? Cost is a factor where I cannot go afs300mm. Thanks

  • Useful video thanks. After all the mixed reviews regarding the AF-D 300mm f4's focus speed, it's handy to actually see it for myself. Even better that I also use a D300. Helped me make up my mind to go for the non-AFS version and save a few pounds.

  • man the 300 is noisy! the limiting part to the focus is handy it seems

  • Thanks a lot. Good info. I am thinking about buying 80-200, lack of motor is big issue. But this videos shows that is totally fine.

  • Awesome. I've never taken the time to sit down and test the focus speed on all of my lenses. Great video Devin!! The 300 f/4 did pretty good. Especially if you use the limiter. I'm still looking for a 300 f/4 on Adorama and B&H.

  • How this got one star, I don't know. I put in a 5 star that should put it back to 3 *
