Useful video thanks. After all the mixed reviews regarding the AF-D 300mm f4's focus speed, it's handy to actually see it for myself. Even better that I also use a D300. Helped me make up my mind to go for the non-AFS version and save a few pounds.
Awesome. I've never taken the time to sit down and test the focus speed on all of my lenses. Great video Devin!! The 300 f/4 did pretty good. Especially if you use the limiter. I'm still looking for a 300 f/4 on Adorama and B&H.
I think the 300/4 is a great lens. I have never attributed its mechanical focusing speed to losing a soccer shot.

you should test the lens and af speed outside the room and under sun light. Every lens and camera in low light area will be slow down for AF.

Hi -If I was shooting surfing, would you recommend the 70-300 or the af300? Cost is a factor where I cannot go afs300mm. Thanks

Thanks a lot. Good info. I am thinking about buying 80-200, lack of motor is big issue. But this videos shows that is totally fine.
