Cool where did you get all these? Fascinating to see the other candidates. This guy has some of the qualities of Mark Hamill, but he's not very expressive. You can't really tell what he's thinking or feeling. His face is just kind of dead. I bet that's why they didn't choose him. He has the right look and the right voice though.

I'm glad they picked Hamill. He was very likeable, and his acting was good enough not to ruin the movie and bad enough to provide years of ridicule for us.

As to where I got these, a fellow Star Wars fan who did not have video capturing ability, but who went to all of the conventions, found a VHS at one long ago.

There are more on there than I didn't edit for YouTube. To many people I don't recognize. Although the guy that played The Greatest American Hero tried out for Luke. Haven't had the time to edit that one. You might find more doing a search for Star Wars Auditions

Andrew Stevens is a really great actor and this audition indicates several things. Obviously he did not have the opportunity to be as prepared to read for this movie, also you can tell Harrison Ford was reading the script and it would be difficult for the Mr Stevens to NOT do likewise

Luckily Mr Stevens did not get the part as how many movies, tv, or anything else have you seen Mark Hamill in ????

The problem with this audition is he is unlikeable. Luke was the main character and the audience had to like him. Andrew plays it more like Hayden Christensen played Anakin. Not to get too much into that, but that's the main reason Anakin didn't work in the prequels. The same thing would have happened in the original trilogy if Luke was played like this. Star Wars Episode IV would have been the only Star Wars movie ever made.
