Ford, today, showed off a new set of technologies that will enable cars to talk to each other, helping to reduce crashes and maybe help with other things, like help with fuel economy. Here Michael Shulman, technical leader in Ford's Active Safety Research and Innovation gives us a demo of the tech.
Thanks to https://twitter.com/#!/hightechdad https://twitter.com/#!/gottabemobile and https://twitter.com/markhachman for joining me on this demo.
A great technology that will save many lives, but I think they need to concentrate on making the cars automatically take the appropriate action, not simply providing an alert to drivers and relying on them to correct. A computer could correct the car much faster and often humans would fail at the correction. Plus, people already get spooked just by a horn going off. Imagine what would happen with all of these alerts going off. They'd get a "don't change lanes" alarm and slam on their brakes.
