  • @Entlaufen The dot or bhindi in now a days is a decor, In older days its shape,size, and color depended from girl's/woman's age, marital status, religion, or ethnicity.

  • @Entlaufen someone correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know,in ancient times,dancers were dancing in temples,and they were "brides" of god(they were living in temples, dancing, singing to god and etc.).So all the jewelery, and hand painting is bridal.Of course todays brides in India wears different jewelery than the dancers.Also I heard,that the read paints on the hand symbolizes the red lotus,which means the pureness of heart.

  • i'd like to know why indian women/dancers paint their fingers and their forehead. thanks
