Find go kart parts on My site ( http://www.tmanskarts.com ) .... This is video 5 on how to build a go kart. In this video I talk about the most common drive set ups that are used in homemade go karts. Many use 3 types, direct from clutch to axle sproket, a jackshaft, or a torque converter.

  • So me and my buddy built a go kart with a 6.75hp rotary tiller engine on it. we originally had a dirtbike motor on it and just welded the sprocket on. now that we have the other engine on we are just reusing the dirtbike sprocket with a 40 chain clutch with a direct drive to the axle. we have small fourwheeler tires on the back. when we took it out for the first time all the clutch does is slip and burn up. is our best bet to just go to smaller tires or get a heavier clutch?

  • @marklax1 I would need more info then that .... how many teeth is the sproket? .... how big are the tires. in inches.

  • @Tmansgokarts sprocket i think is 33 teeth 40 chain, the tires are around 10 inches tall

  • @marklax1 eeek 33 tooth!!! get something between 45 to 54 ... you wont go fast but you'll have way more power and the clutch wont slip.

  • I have a 6Hp engine on my go kart. it does not yet have suspension but it does not shake the frame to badly. The clutch that goes to the jackshaft is driven by a v belt. i got it for a good price and the only thing i need for it now is a new v belt but im wondering if i should just put on a chain driven clutch and a sprocket onto the jackshaft??

  • @MrJasoncoulter92 well you would have better take off power and it wouldn't slip if it gets wet. If you are going to be off roading it then you might want to go with a 41 pitch clutch and chain. Those are stronger then the 35s.
