How one might go about using the MPC1000 as an "all in one" box to make an entire beat.

To clarify:

1. Load drums from the mpc. Record drums, etc. on the mpc. sequence them

2. Record midi from keyboard. Resample the midi as an audio track. Delete the midi track to confirm audio track has recorded properly

3. Add vocals. This is somewhat tricky, because you have to listen to the beat while you are recording your vocals, and this involves not having the beat play over the main outs, because it will then be added to the vocal sample.

4. Trim the vocal samples, add the vocal samples to a program and then sequence them into the song.

5. Resample the entire sequence as a .wav file and export.

As you can see, this process is much simpler to do from a DAW or track recorder.

To be more specific, you need CLOSED headphones :o). Open headphones are basically open at the back, so a lot of sound will escape from it and be recorded by the Mic as well.

Open headphones do tend to give a slightly more "honest" sound in a lot of people's opinion. Then again, it's all about taste of course.

    Just mentioning.

  • You are right that you need headphones to do vocals, that's why you see videos of say Bono from U2 or Abba etc singing with headphones on. The other way say for an acoustic guitar and microphone is that you get some of the guitar in the voice and some voice in with the guitar and with that sort of music you don't edit it together.

I like the video you answered very quickly that you can get the MPC to play midi then sample in the results. nice.
