  • Hello Guys ! Excellent tutorial, thank you for sharing it with us I was wandering how did you came across controlling the auto ISO. How did you manage to choose low ISO to avoid grain? I use manual lenses and the only problem that I have is shutter control.

    Regards

  • This is the major flaw with Nikon video. You cannot choose the ISO or SS, the camera does that for you. By choosing a wide aperture you can in turn effect the ISO that the camera chooses to shoot at.

  • Great video, I'm a photography student and Nikon shooter and have been considering upgrading to the D300s for a while now. I found this video to be informative, and although Canon's video modes are currently superior in a lot of ways, some of your other videos have shown me the power of the D300s' video capabilities.

  • @themysteryman73 Hopefully Nikon will release a camera soon that can compete with Canon and it won't be an issue for you :)

  • I am a amateur photographer here in the Charleston area and really appreciate your videos and FStoppers website. So much to learn and am thankful for the tips. Keep up the good work and I'll watch the videos and hopefully become a better photographer.

  • Thankyou so much! This has helped incredibly! My videos actually look alright now!

  • I've upgraded from a D1x back in the day .... to this new D7000. I have only had my camera a week or so ... but have been shooting video a lot. I've had great results and not so great. I've tried manual, auto, with and without auto focus. This video was fantastic. It seems to apply to the d7000 as well. Kind of wished you might have spoken a little bit more about what ISO you can use, and where it starts to fall apart.

  • Thank you for this tutorial! I tested it today and everything worked very well. I will move to part 2 and 3 tomorrow.

    Thanks!

  • THANK YOU!

This video showed me so much I have yet to learn. Honestly, I am pushing to buy a Canon for more manual control, but I had no clue the D300s had that much potential for video control - thank you! One last question - any suggestion on an f-stop to use when shooting? Do you tend to do a lot of zooms in your shoots that require readjusting focus?

  • @JuBangarang what does format mean? I think the D300s was using motion jpeg. The D7000 uses mpeg I believe

  • @TechQuerk I bought a T2i for the 60fps element. But yeah they will all be fine. Honestly it's more about the lighting and the lenses....1080 DSLR video cameras are going to look good with the right production value

  • @fiakittyy auto focusing on a DSLR is not really possible at this point. I would just focus with the lens. The big movie makers don't use AF at all anyways, they have focus pullers.

  • Thankyou guys so much ive had this camera for 8 months racked up over 30,000 clicks and heaps of video but never thought of touching exp compensation during live view i was just holding play button and up or down thanks soooo much!!!!!!

  • I'm using a D300S, and I'm interested in shooting videos with it - I was wondering though, how do you get it to auto-focus while shooting video without touching the shutter button? Is there even a way?? Your help would be greatly appreciated!

  • how or where do you get the royalty free music?
