how is engineer dps compared to ranger dps?

BWE2 engineers were not in a great place but Anet has talked about improving them.

Doesn't it really depend on the build? The pistol elixir build does really good damage and has more survivability than the ranger. Or so it seems. Idk.

Switched from Necro to Engi as first character as well, my build will be Rifle, Med Kit, Flamethrower, Rifle Turret, Rocket Turret, Supplies with 30 Firearms (swiftness on crit, vulnerability on crit and juggernaut), 30 Inventions (30% less damage against my turrets, 10% faster running in combat and 15% more turret range and damage) and 10 Alchemy (gain vigor on swiftness, cool synergy with the firearms crit trait) though. In World vs World i might change Supplies to Mortar, gotta test that.

After this last Stress Test today (28th) I am deciding to try out Pistol/Shield, Med Kit, Net Turret, Flamethrower, Elixir B, Elixir X. Then the traits are 10 Explosives with #5; 30 Firearms with #5, #8, #11; and 30 Alchemy with #2, #6, and #8.

I've been thinking about running a sort of Juggernaut build with the flamethrower, but I wasn't sure if it would actually be effective. Seeing this vid has convinced me it does actually work.
