Ump screws Roddick after he makes a kind gesture to opponent

July 24, 2008. Roddick demands to replay a point he won because of a fan distracting his opponent. On the replay, the umpire overrules Roddick's ace on the far sideline. Roddick snaps on the umpire and owns him with the Hawkeye challenge.

*Roddick serves and it is in*

Someone in crowd: Out!

*Roddick's opponent is distracted and returns the ball and it lands out*

Roddick: What happened there?

Ump: It's nothing. It's the crowd reaction. I cannot do anything. It's not the Davis Cup.

Roddick: Are we gonna play a let or what?

Ump: Well, normally we don't play a let for that. If you want to play a let, you can. But normally we don't play a let for that.

Roddick: I mean, I'm okay with whatever. The guy definitely said something, so...

Ump: No, I would say something, but, uh, if you want to play a let, you can play a let. Normally, you don't play a let for that, because the crowd...

Roddick: Yeah, that guy definitely said something.

Ump: Okay, that's fine. The last shot was called out. We don't normally play a let. Andy Roddick has accepted to replay the point.

Announcer: A nice gesture from Roddick. It will be appreciated, I'm sure, by his opponent.

*Roddick appears to hit an ace right on the corner*

Ump: Out! Roddick is challenging the call on the right service line. The ball was called out.

Roddick: Now you overrule the far sideline on me, the next point.

Announcer: Roddick feeling a little hard done by it. It caught the sideline and the service line.

Ump: I'm really sorry.

Roddick: Don't overrule that damn side of the court! I give a point back and the next point you overrule that side of the court. What are you doing?

Ump: I'm sorry. I thought the ball was out and so I called it out.

Roddick: It has to be 100%. It's obviously not 100%. I'll see you at the Open. What the? What was that?

Ump: It was my mistake Andy. I accept that it was my mistake. I made a mistake, Andy. I did a mistake.

Roddick: No sh... So somebody does that, and you overrule the far sideline the next point? What's wrong with you!?

Ump: Sorry.

@JayCroix Not really, as there is a review, normally umpires dont overrule at the far side of the court unless they are 100% sure.

@MYBIGKINDHEART I have seen both of them get angry and argue several times, sometimes not even having a good reason. At least Roddick has a good reason to get angry sometimes.
