Active Release Technique (ART) is a great treatment option in any area of the body as there can be scar tissue present with or without traumatic injury. Freeing these tissues to move without the restrictions of scar tissue can help alleviate many of your symptoms.
I had this for 1 yr and no relief long term relief for chronic cervical scapula pain

I have had ART and had been to many chiropractors over the years and none of them compared to my doctor that did ART. It's not a quick fix but I'm a believer. It's not the old crack and pop the back stuff. It is wonderful. My doctor got me out of pain that I had had for years.

who obviously knows nothing. ART is the gold standard in Soft Tissue Mobilization. Professional teams and the IRONMAN use ART not ASTYM because its works better. And you make less money doing ART than just adjusting patients. Like most students in chiropractic school, you're a bit cluless.

I have learned ART and use it to students at chiropractic school. its really good technique to manage soft tissue problems. I am thinking to learn ASTYM or graston type instrument assisted technique. Have you guys ever heard about "Starr tools"? it is much cheaper($150) than astym and graston instruments. ($2-3000)

I believe that Active Release Technique (ART) is just the same as Soft Tissue Release (STR), that is patented. Neuromuscular Technique is the technique that is used to located Trigger Points and then release them. It normally involved flushing the TrP, then a contract/relax, then MET and then stretching.
STR stretches the muscle when the practitioner locks into the muscle and asks the client to make a movement that stretches the muscle.

active release is nothing but a way to make money, go to a physical therapist and get ASTYM, and u'll get better results and ur insurance will cover it.

Concerning the concerns of psolis052004 and JeffreysJAO - ART is an excellent choice but better is Graston Technique that uses uniquely designed stainless steel tools in the hands of either chiropractors or physical therapists trained in their use. The results are incredible!

Do you think this would work well for someone that has pec anserine bursa...bursa to the knee. I started getting this pain after I added sprints to my routine

Not to sound sceptical, but what is the difference between ART and TrP/NMT, aside from a mix with Myofascial release?
