Enlightening interview with UK spiritual and Gnostic author Timothy Freke. Timothy Freke has co-authored a number of books with Peter Gandy on Gnostic spirituality, including "The Jesus Mysteries" and their latest book "The Gospel of the Second Coming". In addition he has penned shorter works aimed directly at personal enlightenment such as his book "Lucid Living". This is an-in depth and fascinating discussion about Gnostic and Eastern spirituality in general, touching on all the inspiring as well as sometimes very controversial aspects of this subject matter. Required viewing for those curious about spiritual matters and the importance of it in our lives today, regardless of your own personal background or beliefs.

Well, until you have EXPERIENCE...you'll merely be hedging bets! But one day, maybe, you'll see the value of experience. Living here in the bible belt, I'm amazed at you many claim to be "born again" - yet Fear & Desire, Hell & Heaven, play a crucial role in their mind-forged manacles. As a mystic, I know...as Carl Jung knew...as Meister Eckhart knew...as Pythagoras, Plotinus, Joe Campbell, & Nietzsche knew. Having seen the light...I beg you to look allegorically at Jesus' message!

f anybody thinks this guy is spouting BS, take a look at Joe Campbell's idea of the "monomyth" or Aldous Huxley's "Perennial Philosophy"...ask any mystic that's had The Experience! You can see allegorical parodies everywhere, from Pilgrim's Progress to Plato' Cave & the Divided Line...from Jacob's Ladder to Dante's Inferno. Then call it Satori in Zen...they call it Illumination in secret societies.

The essence of YOU and the essence of the UNIVERSE are the same

There is no need to go out of the way to deny the existence of a historical man merely because there are a lot of stories manufactured and interposed upon what may have been some historical figure who is pretty much expunged from history. It is like tearing down a strawman. We have absolutely no need to believe one way or the other in order to get the point about Christ. And just because he thinks he understands what Gnosis is about doesn't mean he does, and it doesn't mean there wasn't a man.

Just because it is story, doesn't mean there wasn't an Avatar who went by that or some other name. We don't need to assume no Avatar was there, and we don't need to assume one didn't exist, JUST BECAUSE some people have taken myths and interpolated them with allegories that others were using to convey truths. There are pagan myths injected into Gnostic allegories...along with other religious stories, and none of this means there was no Avatar by some name or other, be it Jesus or not.

Just finished "The Laughing Jesus", fantastic book and absolutely hilarious. A crushing blow to literalist religion.

Thought experiment: can u imagine it happening again? another fresh dying and rising God-man? In the 20th or 21st century? If you find it hard to see this, then explain. and give explanation.

Jesus was a man, a mystic upon which the story got grafted. The bible stories do not match the pagan stories as close as he thinks

I did read it and was an Evangelical for 35 years, I am now a Valentinian Gnostic Christian. The "Whole Bible"? I cannot say I have read all the books NOT in the cannon but I read the bible and the NT twice and many Gnostic texts. Yeshua didn't write one word of it. However, reading a book someone else wrote about another person will never be as good as personal interaction. This is Gnosis.... Mainstream Christians believe in the Godhead, Gnostic Christians know the Godhead personally.
