I remember the silver jubilee, we didnt have a street party but we did have a party at my school in wales, and i can still remember the same evening watching the queen on tv with my family as she lit the beacon, i was 8 that year, they were indeed good days, my dad and my grandmother was still alive then, and great music!
on our street in manchester we all retired to the local church hall because of the threat of rain. i remember it being an overcast day. the whole community gathered in the hall. that wouldn't happen today. successive governments with their 'no such thing as society' ethos have turned us into a nation of selfish individualists.
I was 9 years old and wentt to a street partty in stockport. Had a great day and returned home with my silver jubilee mug which i still have! A community comming together and having fun!
