WD Scorpion HDD vs Intel 320 SSD 6Mbps

Windows 7 64bit Ultimate is very slow on mechanical drives, and even slower on laptop type with typical 15ms random access time. This is my old mans computer. It is sad Windows 7 needs ram type harddisk speeds to be useful, but I guess Microsoft want to bloat Windows down so you are forced to buy new computer. They sell more OS licenses that way.

I dual boot with XP on my own, the same programs stored on the same partition, i.e D:\Prografile\Thumbs Plus, takes twice as long time to launch than in Windows 7. I also hear my raptor drives seek noise is less busy, indicating Windows 7 inserting a NOOP command between every HD IO operation or something :)

@dkdavid721 The differences in price is a lot but it is really worth it to gen an SSD in my opinion because everything is so much faster every application starts up without any buffering. But you can live without one.

i have a question about hardrives.. I'm working on building a custom rig and im undecided between getting just a 2TB HDD or getting a small maybe 64GB SSD plus a 1TB HDD. In the second case the 64GB SSD would store only the operating system and maybe a few other system critical things while the 1TB drive would hold everything else. Would there be a noticeable difference in performance and if so is it worth it?

my windows 7 boots faster on a full 250 gb hdd.. :o 40 seconds until desktop and 8 seconds to shut down as far as i remember. But of course SSD is unbeatable :)
