@DJmixmastermicro Japanese high schools customarily have two big overnight field trips. First year students usually go skiing for several days in winter. Second year students usually have a longer trip, further afield - sometimes to another prefecture or part of Japan. In the case of this school, 2nd yr students visit Thailand, where our sister-school is, for a week.

@DJmixmastermicro I went because I was one of the coordinators of the program, not specifically because I was an English teacher. Also, since the Thai students are studying English and our were too, English was the primary language of communication for students and staff. At the school, we emphasized English as a world language (for global communication) and not specifically as a Western-cultural product.
