Hi Dwight, Scott also suggested simply asking "what keeps you busy...?" That way if work 'defines' the person they can talk about work, yet if their hobbies, friends or kids are more interesting to them, they are free to talk about that too.

interesting. My kids keep me busy when I'm not working.  Not sure what that means about me. But it's definitely a good phrasing of the question. I will try it. :)
