Mars Magnetic Field - Where did it go?

You're wrong. The our sun is a main sequence star, it isn't massive enough to become a black whole. When the sun dies it will use all of its hydrogen which was converted into helium, in a last bit effort it will try to use helium as a fuel which will make the sun expand. It will expand close enough to evaporate all the water on Earth, and melt the mountains. Then it will reach its limit of what it could do with helium and it'll will shrink down to much smaller than it is now (dwarf star).

It's a good bet. But let's be honest, at the very least, it's fun to speculate. It's all mystical stuff. And who knows, you might have just jinxed us all lol.

@ruedjgtc You're wrong! You don't need infinite mass to create a black hole! Our sun, when it will die, will either blow up, or shrink to the point where it collapses on it's own and become a black hole! Even the greatest scientists can't tell for sure what will happen(but it seems YOU hold the key to the mysteries of the Universe!!) when our sun dies, but our sun becoming a black hole is a great possibility!!

The scary part is that our planet's own magnetif field is weakening and drifting out of place...to make matters worse they found 2 gigantic holes....we are the next mars

i wonder why people think of terraforming mars if theres no magnetic field

I'm getting this tingle that I feel sorry what happened to mars. When I watched this video it used to be a beautiful planet, but now it's not . Right now I feel bad thinking that mars is like a devil :( Sorry Mars that I mistreated you badly D:

my own theory is that once mars had a major moon that helped generate its magnetic field but was probably destroyed or diminished by asteroid and meteors bombarding it. If something similiar were to happen to earths moon earths magnetic field would be disrupted as well.

this is wrong the earths magnetic field isnt fading. every 90,000 years it swithches sides and in the process is seems like it gets weaker.

@BLinDaTbESt pal im not

Uhm, no. The reversal takes a LOT longer than you are thinking... It will most definitely not happen by 2012, so you're safe. Maybe you should learn about things before thinking they will 'just' happen. Nothing geological will happen in 2012. Come up with your crazy anti-Christ theories if you must, but geological catastrophes happening in 2012? It is dumb to suggest such things. Geological processes take large amounts of time, making them extremely predictable.

So what does Earth and greedy people have to do with Mars's magnetic field? You can't destroy a magnetic field.
Shouldn't the title of this video be "Mars atmosphere - Where did it go?"
Because this video doesn't really explains why the magnetic field vanished. It rather explains why the atmosphere vanished!
Right?

no wrong ..they know where the atmosphere went.. it went into space,. after mars lost its magnetic field. they're trying to figure where did the Magnetic Field go. which is still some what of a mystery.
