This client came all the way from the Netherlands. OK, so he was in town for a conference... But he had heard about Frank's Fly Arts online and decided to see what fly fishing was like in South Carolina.
Albert shared with me that back in Holland all he fished for was pike, but he was also an accomplished trout fisherman taking trips up to four hours away from his home in Amsterdam to the mountains in Germany.
On this trip Albert managed to hook up to three species of fish he had never caught before - smallmouth bass, striped bass, and largemouth bass. Two of the striped bass measured well over the 26'' limit, but all were returned unharmed to fight another day.
It was a pleasure to fish with this gentleman and teach him the tactics and techniques for catching our fish here in the Midlands.
I also enjoyed sharing with him some of the most authentic southern barbeque in Columbia from True Barbeque. Ernie, owner and head chef, set us up with a generous shore lunch of barbeque, hash and rice, smoked turkey wings, coleslaw, and potato salad. His tender smoky barbeque with his pretty lady, sexy lady, and vinegar base sauce is hard to beat, and his hash is some of the best I've ever had! I am happy to say that I will be offering shore lunches catered by Ernie with all of my future guided trips.
Visit True Barbeque on D Avenue in West Columbia for lunch or dinner if you are in the area. You will not regret it!
Columbia,S.C. is the most beautiful place in the world. Definitely has some of the best fishing ever.
