Santa Monica born, Darlene Knoll has been a Venice resident most of her 56 years. For the past 8 years she has lived in her RV on the street, unable to afford Venice rents. She has been harassed and intimidated by LAPD to the point that she sought sanctuary in a church parking lot, afraid to be on the street. Darlene has become an activist, trying to protect the homeless in Venice but she is afraid of being targeted by the new LAPD Task Force that has been towing vehicles and arresting their owners.

  • Wow - you sure seem to know alot, bigdog, about other people's lives - you said: "they are mostly drug addicts, sex offenders" - perhaps you would like to tell how you know all this - got some inside info - or just using your imagination - hmmm - or just projecting your own stuff? That's more likely....

  • Then there's the trash, dumped water, even piss & shit that may get dumped on the streets or into the gutter by people camping. Or they keep going into business restrooms to bathe & shit. Also taking up parking spaces from customers, etc. This is why cities don't allow people to camp like this. Residence & businesses are the ones complaining to the cops repeatedly, causing them to act. Flat out camping in a mobilehome is being selfish & ending up causing crackdowns against the Steal Vandwellers.

  • to all the fascist critics of this site...forced participation in any system which enriches others is called slavery. kkkapitalizm as it is practiced in this country, is slavery. no one the right to enforce slavery upon another. you tea baggers can fuck off and talk shit somewhere else. better yet pick up a history book and see what alway happens to assholes like you!!!

  • Don't just blame the cops nor the city. It's the residence & businesses there that don't want people to setup & just live right in front of their houses, stores, office, etc. People don't even like others parking right in front of their suburban house on the public street, imagine getting campers 24/7/365. It's bad for their business & bad for property value, let alone an eyesore. Sad, but true. Stealth Camping is ok, but parking a bigass MOBILE HOME in front of someone's business permanently...

  • I'd just drive it out to some desert town and chill there.

  • wouldn't it be better to move upstate or somewhere less populated where you don't get harrassed?

  • the only reason the cops bother people is because you are not givin the city and tax man more money by having a giant home that you pay 5K+ in property taxes and fees and all that bullshit...RV'ers and van dwellers that are good ppl are the explorers of this centry and in my book and nothing to be looked down on

  • PEOPLE DO HAVE A HARD TIME AND R HOMLESS THRU NO FAULT OF THERE OWN I WAS HOMELESS FOR 2 YRS AND I WASNT A DRUNK DRUGGIE OR SEX OFFENDER

  • Damn, damn, damn. They harass us sex workers. When I went to court to escort a sex worker to her appointment meeting, I saw a poor, but INTELLIGENT, highly INTELLIGENT guy argue the unconstitutionality of what they are doing to folks whose residence is their car. I hate LAPD, fucking robots.

  • damn thats fucked up, can't wait till these nazi cops stop forcing us around. well i guess we need Ron Paul up in there to restore individual liberty.

  • Wow, some truly insensitive and cruel responses here. The so called land of the free...how ironic? If folk wish or have no option but to live in a MH, then good luck to them. They have a hard enough time as it is...
