I grew up with GL ( my dad had the LPs) he is still an amazing musician. Not many know this but when he started out in 1966 he was married with 2 toddlers I think he wrote this for his wife, Britta
Such a tender, lovely melody and a voice that ached with vulnerability and longing. Even in Canada G Lightfoot is sadly underrated. I hope there's a rebound in appreciation of his beautiful songs - before he passes.
I had the honor of seeing Gordon in concert many times during his peak in the 70's. A true Canadian treasure. It's a shame his age has taken a toll on his voice - a truly classy guy.
65Seasons...Thank you. I tried to give it a quick listen just now but it plays for 5 seconds then pauses for 30...then plays another 5 seconds...then pauses again... must be my PC...I'll revisit it soon when I have a little more time...thank you again.
Best of the best, a boy with a man's voice that turned into a legend. Wish and hope he lives forever! The voice hasn't changes after 41 years. Every note played and sung like it is meant to be. So natural and meaningful lyrics that I cannot ever keep from hearing these songs in my head and singing them while driving. I bought his music when it only came in plastic and now on CD. Sing on!
Even as a young boy in the early 70's, I loved GL's music. My grand daughter, at age 6, loves to listen to him with me. She often asks for it. She has good taste. Long live this magnificent music.
Gordon...this song...this arrangement...what treasures! If anyone has and can post to You Tube the arrangement of this song by the Sandpipers please do so...an appreciative world will be waiting...thanks for this post...Tunesmith
