Well it is what it is

The radio is a yaesu ft 817nd I got it used from a ham here in the US. The radio is a lot better on the internal battery then I thought it would be. I get 4-5 hours out of the internal battery. However, I keep the 7 amp-hour bat with me just for the heck of it. I would like to get a light battery pack for it soon as my wife and I are planning to hike part of the AT this winter. And no she does not like ham radio she thinks im a geek

The backpack is just a wal-mart special.

The tuner is an ldg z-11pro.

The antenna is a 40 meter dipole fed with the cheapest lightest coax money can buy. And of course 5 of the finest watts.

The gun is a junker I got it at a gun show for a few bucks as the barrel was blocked up a air hammer took care of that. It shoots fine but it is of no value so it goes good in any backpack.

The ATV is a 250 trail blazer 2x4. I will say this if you did not know any better you would think it was 4x4. I have to find some metal so I can build some racks on it before hunting season.

  • Hi William, i agree with you totally I know of an operator who bought a GI0 call, an MI0 call and after getting these calls he then did an MI3!!!!! which is a bit strange. Heres the funny bit, with all these call signs he insists on using 11 meters!!!

    Enjoy the radio.

  • +1 on the single action revolver.

I just got my 817 today, and so far it's a lot of fun.

  • So that guy was in Seattle WA.? Thats one helluva shot from FL on 5 watts!

  • Q.R.P ROCKS GREAT VID TJ I LIKE THE GUN HI HI - DONT FORGET YOU WILL BE BETTER WITH A BALUN UGLY BALUN AT FEEDPOINT TO MAKE ANTENNA MORE EFFICIENT AND CUT DOWN ON ANY LOSSES YOU WANT THE FUL POWER UP THE SPOUT.

  • Thanks for posting this TJ, I'm about to buy one of those rigs and your video has swung it for me. Hope to work you on the bands one day, cheers, Tryg

  • Nice video we don't really need revolvers in the uk unless we go portable in Brixton or Mersyside where the local wildlife would be after your ride!!

  • 1:55 lol. you're exactly right. i just subscribed. great video.

  • Thanks for the video. I have an 817nd also and have been out three time this year with it. Twice in the mountains and once today at the ocean. Although I get great reception I have yet to make an HF contact. I think I need a bigger antenna. hi hi. 73 NZ7B

  • Nicely done, planning on getting an 817nd myself, any tips on the antenna? Homebrew? I think I'm liking qrp.
